Metal Random Packing Selection, Types & Applications
Metal random packing is widely used in packed towers for distillation, absorption, stripping, scrubbing and other gas-liquid mass transfer processes. Different packing geometries provide different combinations of surface area, void fraction, hydraulic capacity and pressure drop.
Available Types — Metal Pall Ring · Metal Raschig Ring · Cascade Mini Ring (CMR) · Metal Intalox Saddle · Dixon Ring · Super Raschig Ring · Teller Ring · Flat Ring
Available Materials — SS304 · SS316L · Carbon Steel · Duplex Stainless Steel · Other alloys according to process requirements
Key Selection Factors — Tower Diameter · Packing Size · Gas Velocity · Liquid Loading · Pressure Drop · Fouling Tendency · Operating Temperature · Chemical Compatibility · Required Mass Transfer Performance
Typical Applications — Distillation Columns · Absorption Towers · Scrubber Systems · Stripping Columns · Refining & Petrochemical Towers · Chemical Processing · Solvent Recovery · Tower Revamp & Replacement
Packing Selection Considerations — Smaller packing sizes generally provide higher specific surface area but may increase pressure drop and fouling sensitivity. Larger packing sizes can provide greater hydraulic capacity and lower pressure drop but should be evaluated against tower diameter, liquid distribution and required separation performance.
Engineering Support — DAIER provides preliminary packing screening, packing size selection, packing volume and weight estimation, material screening and RFQ preparation through the Tower Packing Engineering Assistant.
