Bulk density is often printed as one fixed number on a ceramic packing datasheet.
In reality, bulk density is partly a property of the packing and partly a property of how the packing forms a bed.
If the same ceramic elements are loaded using different procedures, the resulting arrangement can become slightly more open or more compact.
This is why catalogue bulk density should be treated as a representative value rather than a perfectly immutable constant.
Bulk Density Includes Empty Space
Bulk density is:
packing mass / bulk bed volume.
Because bulk volume contains voids between pieces, anything that changes the bed arrangement can change the measured value.
The ceramic material itself has not changed.
The orientation of the pieces has.
Loose Pouring vs Artificial Compaction
Normal random packing should form a naturally settled bed.
If someone intentionally:
