Prevent tray uplift by defining credible pressure-surge loads and checking the complete restraint path through panels, joints, clamps, beams and support rings. Inspect for evidence of previous movement and correct the initiating pressure event as well as damaged hardware.

Design tray manways and access doors as functional tray panels. Verify usable access, handling, structural loads, vapor sealing, deck level, active-device pattern, thermal movement, retained hardware and final closure.

Tray panel gaps can carry low-resistance vapor bypass and liquid leakage even when their total area appears small. Control joint geometry, support, sealing, fasteners, thermal movement, field trimming and final acceptance.

Keep dimensioned unperforated zones where inlet liquid must spread and outlet froth must disengage. Balance these zones against active vapor area and verify every tray pass, operating case and fabricated hole pattern.

Use an inlet weir only when the tray needs controlled liquid spreading, jet reduction, sealing or a defined receiving zone. Check added downcomer backup, vapor interaction, turndown, drainage, fouling and end-gap distribution.
