A mist eliminator can become overloaded when entrained-liquid quantity increases even if gas velocity remains unchanged. Retrofit should review drainage capacity, media liquid holdup, support obstruction, droplet characteristics, tower levelness, disengagement space, and possible pre-separation.

When wire mesh demisters are repeatedly damaged during cleaning, retrofit should improve section size, handling support, lifting method, installation clearance, cleaning procedure, and module identification. The separator should be engineered for repeated removal rather than only for initial installation.

Foreign debris inside a packed tower can block distributor outlets, support grids, drains, and lower piping or damage the packing itself. Recovery should follow the likely debris path, inspect hydraulic restrictions, remove damaged packing where necessary, and improve maintenance controls to prevent recurrence.

Steam cleaning can damage plastic packing, distributors, supports, and connections even when normal process temperature is low. Retrofit should inspect geometry and strength, correct distorted components, and change the future cleaning procedure or materials so the same thermal exposure does not repeat the failure.

After an unexpected chemical concentration excursion, tower internals should be reviewed using the actual chemical, concentration, temperature, and exposure time. Packing, supports, distributors, demisters, fasteners, seals, and trapped residual liquid all require consideration before reuse.
