  • incorrect dimensions.

The first reaction may be:

supplier problem.

Sometimes that is correct.

Sometimes the issue occurred during:

transport, unloading, storage, or site handling.

A disciplined receiving investigation should determine what actually happened.

First Classify the Problem

There are at least three different categories:

Shortage — required quantity is missing.

Transit or handling damage — correct product was produced but physically damaged later.

Manufacturing nonconformity — product was made incorrectly.

The investigation process differs for each.

Check the Packing List

For a shortage, begin by checking:

  • package count;
  • crate number;
  • piece marks;
