Metal random packing is often produced in very large quantities.

A single industrial order may contain tens or hundreds of thousands of individual pieces.

This creates an obvious inspection problem:

How can the buyer confirm product conformity without inspecting every ring?

The answer is not 100% inspection.

It is a structured pre-shipment inspection plan.

Start with the Approved Purchase Basis

Inspection should never begin with a generic statement such as:

Check quality before shipment.

The inspector needs an approved reference.

That reference may include:

purchase order, approved datasheet, product drawing, material requirement, agreed dimensions, sheet thickness, and packaging requirement.

Inspection can only determine conformity when the acceptance criteria were defined before production.

Separate Critical and Reference Parameters

Not every datasheet value needs the same inspection level.

Visual Quality

Metal random packing should also be checked for abnormal:

crushing, incomplete forming, excessive burrs, severe distortion, loose fragments, or contamination.

Quantity Verification

For packing purchased by volume, the inspector should confirm:

declared volume, number of packages, package identification, and expected net weight.

Weight can provide a useful cross-check against the approved bulk-density range.

It should not automatically replace the contractual quantity basis.

Packaging Inspection

A product can pass manufacturing inspection and still be damaged during transport.

Before shipment, verify that packaging is adequate to prevent:

crushing, water exposure, contamination, and package collapse.

Container loading should also avoid excessive loads on lower packages.

Inspection Records

The final inspection record should identify:

product, order number, lot or batch, sampled quantity, measured values, visual results, material documentation, packaging condition, and disposition.
