Wire Mesh Demister RFQs: What Information Is Needed Before a Supplier Can Finalize the Design?

A wire mesh demister may be one of the simplest-looking tower internals.

That often leads to RFQs containing only:

SS316L demister, diameter 1200 mm, thickness 150 mm.

This can produce a quotation.

It may not produce the correct demister.

Gas Flow Is Essential

The supplier needs to know how gas flows through the mesh.

Important information includes:

gas flow direction and gas rate.

Vertical upward flow and horizontal flow create different installation and drainage considerations.

Operating Pressure and Temperature

Gas density depends on process conditions.

Therefore, gas flow should ideally be provided in a form that can be related to the actual operating condition.

Temperature also affects:

material selection and gas properties.

Liquid and Droplet Information

Where available, the supplier should know:

liquid type, liquid density, approximate droplet characteristics, and liquid loading.

Not every project can provide detailed droplet-size data.

But the supplier should at least understand what liquid is being removed.

Mesh Construction

If the project already requires a particular design, state:

wire diameter, mesh density, pad thickness, and material.

If the supplier is expected to select the mesh, the process conditions become even more important.

Vessel Dimensions

The supplier requires:

actual inside diameter or duct dimensions.

For replacement work, field dimensions may be valuable.

Manway

A large circular pad normally needs to be supplied in sections.

The clear manway size determines:

segment count and maximum section dimensions.

This information should not wait until after production.

Support Scope

The RFQ should answer whether the supplier includes:

lower support, upper hold-down, grid, frame, clips, and fastening hardware.

“Demister set” should not be used without defining what the set includes.

Corrosion Conditions

Material selection should reflect:

gas, liquid droplets, concentration, and temperature.

The wire and support materials may need separate definition.

Pressure-Drop Requirement

If the project has a maximum allowable pressure drop, this should be communicated.

A supplier should not be asked to maximize collection performance without knowing the hydraulic constraint.

Engineering Takeaway

A wire mesh demister quotation becomes design-ready only when the supplier understands gas conditions, liquid service, mesh requirements, vessel geometry, access, and support scope.

Otherwise, the offer remains largely dimensional.
