Plastic Random Packing RFQs: Which Missing Details Most Often Change the Final Quotation?
A request such as:
PP Pall Ring, 50 mm, 10 m³
is usually enough for a supplier to issue an indicative price.
But several important procurement variables remain unresolved.
Plastic packing prices and technical suitability can change depending on resin requirements, packing design, operating conditions, packaging, and documentation.
That means an early quotation and a purchase-ready quotation are not always the same thing.
“PP” Does Not Always Define the Final Material
The buyer should decide whether the project requires:
standard commercial PP, virgin PP, a specific resin family, UV-stabilized PP, conductive or antistatic PP, or another modified formulation.
If the RFQ simply states “PP,” suppliers may use different raw-material assumptions.
This can create large price differences that are not obvious from the quotation title.
Temperature Should Be Provided Early
Plastic material capability is more temperature-sensitive than many metallic packing materials.
The supplier should therefore receive:
normal operating temperature and relevant maximum temperature.
This prevents a low-cost quotation from progressing too far before someone discovers that the polymer is unsuitable.
Chemical Information Should Not Be Omitted
A purchaser may already know that PP is commonly used in an application.
Even so, the supplier should receive basic chemical-service information.
The relevant combination is:
chemical, concentration, temperature.
This gives the supplier an opportunity to flag an obvious compatibility concern.
Weight and Volume Are Not the Same Commercial Basis
Plastic packing can be sold by:
m³, pieces, kilograms, or bags.
The RFQ should state which quantity controls the order.
For a packed tower, bulk volume is usually easier to relate to bed requirements.
If the supplier prices by weight, the expected bulk-volume conversion should be stated.
Geometry Can Differ Between Suppliers
Different manufacturers may use slightly different molds for products sold under the same commercial name.
Therefore, if exact replacement is required, the buyer should provide:
sample, dimensions, drawing, or photographs.
If commercial equivalence is acceptable, the supplier should provide its own technical datasheet for approval.
Color Should Be Separated from Material
Some projects require a particular color for:
identification, branding, or visual inspection.
Color itself should not be confused with resin quality.
If color matters commercially, specify it independently.
If it does not matter, allowing the supplier's standard color may reduce unnecessary cost.
Packaging Matters More Than It Appears
Plastic packing is lightweight but bulky.
Freight can therefore be strongly affected by:
bag dimensions, compression, palletization, and container utilization.
The RFQ should indicate whether the quote should include:
factory packaging only or export-ready packaging.
Fire-Retardant or Other Special Requirements
If the process or site requires a special property, it should be stated at RFQ stage.
A standard PP quotation should not later be expected to include specialty resin performance without price adjustment.
Supplier Should Declare the Offered Construction
A useful technical quotation should identify:
product model, nominal size, resin, dimensions, typical bulk density, packaging, and key physical data.
This allows procurement to confirm that competing suppliers are offering comparable products.

Plastic random packing quotations become reliable only when the resin requirement, process temperature, chemical service, quantity basis, geometry, and packaging are clear.
A short RFQ can still work—but any missing assumptions should appear explicitly in the supplier's offer.
