SS304 and SS316L tower internals can suffer free-iron contamination from carbon-steel tools, grinding dust, work surfaces, handling equipment and storage racks. Stainless fabrication should control cross-contamination, post-weld cleaning, storage and final surface inspection separately from alloy verification.

Shop trial assembly can reduce installation risk for segmented liquid distributors, collectors, support grids and other custom tower internals. It verifies interface fit, bolt alignment, assembled dimensions and segment sequence before shipment, but it does not replace verification of the actual vessel dimensions.

Tower shell out-of-roundness can affect the fit of structured packing, distributors, support grids and other custom internals. Retrofit projects should verify actual internal diameter in several directions and at the relevant installation elevations, while also checking lining, support geometry and manway access before fabrication dimensions are frozen.

Subvendor control in tower internals projects should ensure that material, geometry, inspection and documentation requirements are passed to critical subcontractors and verified on receipt. Outsourcing a process does not transfer final product responsibility away from the main supplier.

An export packing specification for tower packing should define packaging according to product type, fragility, contamination risk, handling limits and site storage conditions. Ceramic packing, plastic random packing, structured packing and custom tower internals require different protection strategies.
